The Attributes of God
God in Three Persons
Pastor Steve Svendsen
It is our task to contend for the faith and identify the biblical boundaries of Christian belief and behavior. Not every person who claims the name “Christian” should be allowed to cross thevJordan. I am not arguing for the death penalty for heretics, but I am arguing that the confession of the Trinity is a worthy Shibboleth.
God is Self-Sufficient
Pastor Steve Svendsen
A famous painting unintentionally misleads those who look at it. It pictures Jesus at a door, presumably the door of a sinner’s heart, waiting for permission to enter. Certainly Christ dwells in the believer’s heart by faith (Ephesians 3:17), but the easy impression makes Jesus a needy outsider and us insiders with power to give Jesus something He needs. Scripture is clear that God is not waiting in heaven to respond to us. He certainly answers our prayers, but even the prayer of faith is initiated by Him, not us (Acts 11:18; Ephesians 2:8-10).
God is Eternal
Pastor Steve Svendsen
The Hebrew title ascribed to the creator is El Olam: the God of eternity. God never had a beginning and He will never cease to be God. When we say that God is infinite (another study in itself), we describe Him as boundless in many ways like space, knowledge and power. He is also boundless in time. Another way to describe the eternality of God is temporal infinity.
